Comments:  Hi. My name is Jennifer and I run the Hosta Happenings newsletter for the Genesee Valley Hosta Society in Rochester, NY. I was surfing this evening and came across your article on Hosta's vs. Giboshi. I was wondering if it would be alright to add a copy of the article into our May newsletter. I really think our members would enjoy it.

I live in Bridgeton, NJ but I grew up in Seabrook. Ever heard of it?
I loved your webite and enjoyed the pronunciation and meanings of Japanese hosta names. I learned how to pronounce Sagae...I said Sa-guy. Thanks for getting me straight.

Comments:  I really enjoy your site. There is so much interesting information, much of which is not available on other sites.

I am relatively new at collecting and growing hostas. I guess you would say I'm still in the learning stages. I have about 75 varieties in several gardens. I try to add 5-10 each year. Fortunately my wife prefers "sun" perennials so we don't have to compete for the same space.

It is interesting to see you are from Hokkaido. I was in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in northern Japan, in Wakkanai, for nearly three years, 1969 to 1972. However, I didn't know a hosta from bamboo at that time. I would love to have the opportunity to go back some time.

Thank you for your wonderful site. Keep up the good work and the interest in Hostas.

Comments:  Most enjoyable website. I have enjoyed reading about the many areas of your culture: Ikebana(Ohara), imitation of Japanese art style, and growing many of the plants you feature on your website. Living in South Carolina in zone 7 we are fortunate to have azaleas, camellias, hosta, plum trees, mums, and cherry trees that are also part of the appreciation of beautiful plants.
Thank you for sharing the beauty around us all.
Sincerely,
Gloria Ormsby

Comments:  I write a regular column for The Japan Times called "In bloom" (you can find it on their website www.japantimes.co.jp and I have just found your website about hostas, which I enjoyed very much.

I'd like to ask you two questions: may I publish the link to your website in my upcoming column in June? Also, could you tell me who wrote the haiku that you quote in your home page, about hostas growing among the rocks?

I would appreciate a quick reply if you can, as I have a deadline end of this week.  Thanks a lot and kind regards

Linda

Comments:  Thank you so much for putting this information out their. I have always bought hostas grown and have recently started looking into growing them from seed. I completely agree...you have to have something over the cold winter months. Your page has been very helpful in my initial stages. Good luck with your plants...looks like they are doing great. Have a great day and happy growing! Brooke

Comments:  You have a very complete collection of hostas! I was impressed. Some of your yard looks a little like mine. I have a huge, very old pine that dominates my front yard. I dug up all the grass and planted it with hosta! I have just recently (as a lark) started growing hosta from seed... so many seedlings, so little time! If you are interested in minatures, you might like Little Wonder...very bushy mounding growth, lots of white on the leaf, flowers on nice stalks held about a foot above the top leaves with very dark purple blooms, heavy bloomer, although not as heavy as Golden Tiara.

Comments:  Hi, I would love your advice about when to plant baby hostas outside. I live in a mild southern climate, with the last frost happening sometime in March/ early April. Someone has given me some hosta seeds- from what type I have no idea. Also, are hosta clumps supposed to be divided after several years? Thanks for any advice- you're the most avid hosta person I know of. Esther

Comments:  Hello, I belong to a forum called "Freecycle" where members post items they no longer so other members can come get them. One item I had was hosta seeds that I harvested from some very old (at least 15 years) plants. I saved a lot because I didn't really know how many would come out of the pods. I just stuck pods, seeds, stems and all in a huge paper bag. When I emptied the bag there were a lot of seeds there. Really more than I would ever get started. So I posted that I had hosta seeds to share and the forum went crazy!!! EVERYone had a story and everyone's story ended with "that's why I want some of those hosta seeds"! To make sure that the seeds were treated properly I sent a little note with your web site for a reference. I don't know how many people responded to you, but I wanted you to know that your site got into at least 30 homes with those seeds. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and pictures. I finally got some potting soil, so my seeds go in this weekend.
